Tribute from OGMC to Curtis Marsh Curtis Marsh was born to perform and delight audiences. He brought style and verve to every event, large and small. When Curtis joined in 2019, OGMC had just been invited to perform Beethoven with the Oakland Symphony and Emanuel Ax under Michael Morgan’s direction. As an accomplished Tenor, Curtis was thrilled with the opportunity and plunged into performance mode. An amazingly rewarding, cooperative experience was the result. This past week, our membership has recounted endless stories of how rewarding it has been to have been blessed with the gift of knowing this beautiful soul. Curtis was a constant source of brightness, warmth and joy. He loved as dearly as he was loved by others, and gave back heartily to his family, friends and community. The life force of this man was a gift deserving of love, gratitude and applause. We are heartbroken at the senseless loss of his life, and stand in solidarity and deep sympathy with those who knew and loved him. We encourage everyone affected by this tragedy to join us this Saturday, March 11th, 4pm at the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center (3207 Lakeshore Ave) to show support for Curtis and hold space for each other as we mourn his loss. Excited for the concerts this weekend! ❤ The safety of our singers and our audience is very important to us. We ask that all audience members wear a mask. In addition, all singers are fully vaccinated. 🎟️ In accordance with our local health mandates, singers will have the option to sing without a mask upon a negative Covid test result each day of our concert weekend. OGMC Mourns a Friend ❤️ We learned recently of the passing of Michael Morgan, Music Director of the Oakland Symphony, and a friend of the chorus. We collaborated with the Symphony and the Symphony Chorus three times in the recent past, singing the Brahms German Requiem; Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy (with Emanuel Ax), and the Prisoners’ Chorus from Fidelio; and selections from the Mozart Requiem, all under maestro Morgan’s baton. Everyone who participated was enriched by the experience. We’ve lost a friend and collaborator, and the whole community has lost a treasured musician. Our hearts go out to all of our brothers and sisters in the East Bay musical family. #eastbaymusic

For the month of August the Oakland Gay Men's Chorus will be holding open rehearsals for people interested in auditioning with the chorus. The chorus will be back rehearsing starting on August 10th. All August rehearsals will be open to potential new members and they are welcome to come to one (or all of them). This will give you an idea of the vocal demands, level of sight reading, and what to expect at weekly rehearsals. The August rehearsal times will only be an hour long followed by social gathering afterwards. Our regular rehearsals start on September 7th. Weekly rehearsals for the Oakland Gay Men's Chorus are on Tuesday nights. August rehearsal dates are: ✅ August 10, 17, 24, & 31 ✅ Rehearsal times in August will be from 7:15 to 8:15pm. ✅ Starting September 7th rehearsals will end at 9:45pm. Once you have attended one of the open rehearsals we will set up an audition time for you. Auditions will be taking place after the September 7th rehearsal. All participants will be required to show proof of vaccination for COVID-19. You will be asked to present documentation at the rehearsal site before entering.
